Cancel your housing contract

Cancellation requests must be sent at least two months before the requested date, and cancellations are always made to the last date of a given month. If a contract is cancelled before its start date, the cancellation is immediate and without penalty.

When you receive a housing offer from us, the contract end date will in most cases be either 31 December or 30 June. Your current contract end date is displayed in the contract tab on your housing account.

How to cancel your contract

To cancel your contract, please log in to your housing account and make a support ticket under the tab "Contract request." 

Specify your new desired end date - this must always be the last date of any given month. 

Which end dates are available to you depends on when your request is submitted: before or after the start date of the contract.

Before the start date of the contract

If a cancellation request is submitted before the contract start date, the cancellation is immediate and the tenant will not incur any financial penalties. It usually takes about a week for the cancellation to be processed, and any relevant refunds to be initiated. As long as the request is submitted before the contract start date, it will be granted.

After the start date of the contract

Once a contract has started, LU Accommodation has a two full calendar month cancellation notice period, and cancellations are always made to the last date of any given month. The earliest cancellation date is always the last day of the month two months after the cancellation request was submitted.

Hence, if the cancellation request is submitted in August, the earliest possible end date is 31 October. For requests submitted in September, the earliest end date is 30 November, and so on.

If the request is submitted less than two full calendar months before the current contract end date, it will be denied.

Moving out early

You are liable to pay until the end of the housing contract even if you move out earlier. Tenants who move out early may consent to LU Accommodation finding a replacement tenant to take over paying parts of the due rent, but there is no guarantee one will be found.

Tenants are not allowed to find their own replacement tenant, or sublet the accommodation in any way.
