Keys
The keys vary depending on housing area. In some areas tenants only have an electronic tag that works for all entrances, common areas and laundry facilities, in other places tenants have multiple keys or tags to enter certain areas.
How to collect and return keys
Keys are collected in person from our reception or at the Arrival Day, from the first working day on or after the contract start date. When moving out, keys should be returned before 12:00 (noon) on the contract end date.
Lost keys need to be reported immediately, and a spare set will be issued. For more information, see:
Types of keys
Keys are divided into physical keys, which you insert and turn in a lock as normal, and electronic tags, that you need to touch to an electronic reader to use.
How to use electronic tags
There are electronic tags and readers for entrances at many areas, and electronic locks on the room or apartment doors of the following housing areas: Bautastenen, Eddan, Sofieberg, Spoletorp North, and Östra Torn (only shared apartments).
Entrance and corridor doors
To unlock the door:
- Hold the key against the tag reader
- When you see the green light, open the door
Apartment and room doors
Most doors are fitted with a circular reader, but at Eddan and Sofieberg there are also doors with an older oblong model. Below you can find instructions on how to use both types of readers.
Please remember to activate your tag by using it on the entrance door at least every third day.
Instruction video
Watch the video below on how to use the circular electronic locks.
To unlock the door
1. Hold the key against the tag reader
2. When you see the green light, turn the reader to unlock
To lock the door
- Close the door and hold the key against the tag reader
- When you see the green light, turn the reader the other way to lock
N.B. If you turn the reader too hard the lock might complain and start blinking red. Turn the reader back just a little bit to fix this issue.
Please remember to activate your tag by using it on the entrance door at least every third day.

Light signals
Only red light – tag not updated or unauthorised to enter. In most cases this indicates that you have not used the tag on all doors on your way to your personal room, or that you are at the wrong door.
Both green and red light – The battery is low. Make a fault report to the caretakers.
Malfunctioning key or lock
If you cannot enter your room, please do the following:
- Make sure that your tag is activated: Go to the tag reader at the entrance and hold the tag against it for several seconds. Thereafter try to open your room.
- If you still cannot enter your room, please contact LU Accommodation and make a fault report (weekdays 07.00 – 16.30) or LU Security (weekdays 16.30 – 07.00, and all weekends and holidays: 046-222 08 00). If there should be a fault with your key or lock you will not be charged any fee.
RCO tag
In some housing areas this is the only key you will receive. Where we have electronical locks this key will let you inside everywhere.
Keyfinder badge
All keychains have a key finder plaque attached to it. The key finder does not contain any tracking chip but has a tracking number on it.
