Rent
Paying your rent
Below you will find information regarding how rent payments work if you stay with LU Accommodation.
When do I have to pay my rent?
The rent is to be paid in advance on or before the last day of each month. Rent invoices are published on your housing account two weeks before the deadline.
Example: the deadline for the August rent is 31 July.
If an invoice is not paid on time, a SEK 60 late fee will be applied. Late invoices will be transferred to Kammarkollegiet for debt collection within two weeks.
Kammarkollegiet is the Swedish National Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency.
All housing areas except one have an 11-month rent model. Rent is charged every month except July, provided the tenant moved in before May.
July and August rent exception
The student housing area in Helsingborg (Östra Vallgatan) has a 10-month rent model. Rent is charged every month except July and August, provided the tenant moved in before May.
How do I pay my rent?
You pay your rent online by logging in to your housing account.
If this does not work, or you do not have a card where you can make online payments, you can pay with card in our reception.
It is important that you have access to a Visa card or MasterCard that allows you to make online payments. Please make sure that:
- Your card has the functionality to make online payments.
- Your card has no security limits or restrictions (including geographical restrictions).
- Your card is valid throughout your stay in Lund.
- You have the 3-D Secure/ Verified by Visa in place and can receive security codes to your cell-phone after your arrival to Lund.
Please note that a Maestro card is not designed to be used to make payments in our online payment system.
If you are uncertain about any of the above please contact your bank to make sure you can pay your rent online throughout your stay in Lund!
LU Accommodation strongly recommends paying your rent online.
If you do not have access to a debit/credit card that can pay online, we strongly recommend arranging for one.
If this is not possible, you are welcome to pay by card at our reception. We do not accept cash payments.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to pay the whole amount for one term in one payment.
We are currently only able to publish individual invoices. Send an e-mail to luacc [at] service [dot] lu [dot] se (luacc[at]service[dot]lu[dot]se) if you wish us to publish more than one invoice (max 2).
Problems with paying?
If you have problems paying, please consult the possible error messages listed below. If your issue is not listed below, please submit a support ticket via your housing account.
I tried to pay online and got an error message stating my payment was "refused by card issuer". What does that mean?
In the vast majority of cases this message usually indicates one of the following:
- Limits or restrictions on the card (most often geographical restrictions),
- You have a card with no access to online payments,
- Not enough money available in the account.
Please contact your bank and let them help you assess the problem.
I tried to pay online and got the error message stating "cancelled by customer". What does that mean?
For some reason you yourself have interrupted the payment attempt. If the payment page is in Swedish make sure to choose "betala" (pay) and not "avbryt" (cancel). If it still does not work please take a print screen of what happens when you fail to pay and send it to luacc [at] service [dot] lu [dot] se (luacc[at]service[dot]lu[dot]se) with an explanation of what you have tried.
I tried to log on to my housing account and it does not work. What can I do?
- Make sure that you use the right username (email address) and password.
- If you have forgotten your password please reset your password.
- Close all tabs on the browser and wait 30 minutes before attempting to log back in.
- If still not working; close the browser, wait 30 minutes and use a different internet browser.
- If still not working; try using a different internet enabled device.
If the issue persists, send a screenshot of the error message to luacc [at] service [dot] lu [dot] se (luacc[at]service[dot]lu[dot]se)
How much do I pay?
LU Accommodation does not own the buildings, so the tenants' rent amount is determined by:
- the rent paid by LU Accommodation to the building owner,
- an LU Charge that covers LU Accommodation's services and furniture (max 15% of the above), plus
- additional costs for electricity and internet (this is sometimes included in the rent to the building owner).
The tenants' rent in all areas includes access to water, heating, electricity and internet, as well as basic furnishing (though not bedsheets or towels).
Rent increases
LU Accommodation increases the rents when the building owners or service providers increase their prices. Rent increases are usually scheduled for January, but can vary per area.
Depending on the contract LU has with the landlord, rent increases may either be fixed, based on inflation, or non-fixed. Below follows an explanation of each, and a list of which housing areas follow which model.
Internet and electricity costs may change independently of any landlord rent increase. Housing areas with asterisks (*) have separately calculated costs for either internet or electricity, or both (**).
Most landlords increase their rents in January, based on the Swedish inflation increase (calculated as the Consumer Price Index) in October. The current inflation rate (as of July 2026) is around 0,7%.
Housing areas with rent increases based on inflation include: Bautastenen, Eddan*, Gerdagatan**, Helsingborg-Östra Vallgatan*, Klostergården, Sofieberg**, Spoletorp North**, Spoletorp South**, Stora Gråbrödragatan*, and Östra Torn.
At these housing areas, rent will increase by 2% or 4% each January.
Housing areas with fixed increases include: Ideon Student House* (2%), Måsvägen* (2%), and Sparta International** (4%).
Several housing areas have no fixed rent increase. In these cases the landlord determines the rent increase, and LU Accommodation can dispute it if it is unreasonable. The landlord informs LU Accommodation minimum two months before the increase, and we then contact the tenants. Increases tend to be from January, as per Swedish rental practice.
Housing areas with no fixed increase include the following (Researcher areas only):
Albogatan*, Annexet*, Dag Hammarskjölds väg*, Kulgränden**, Kyrkogatan**, Luzernvägen**, Orkestervägen**, Pålsjövägen.
In the housing areas with separately calculated Internet and Electricity costs, we have standardized all tenants costs based on average costs as follows:
Internet costs are averaged out across all Student tenants and Researcher tenants, respectively.
Electricity costs are based on the latest estimates published by Konsumentverket (the Swedish Consumer Agency), according to type of accommodation.
