Included in the rent

Amenities and furniture included in your accommodation

On this page you will find information regarding what is included in your housing if you stay with LU Accommodation

Included

LU Accommodation aims to provide a standardized set of furniture, utensils, and amenities in all our housing areas. Do note that certain items such as bedclothes are not included in the accommodation

Though there are some differences between housing areas, the following amenities are included in all accommodations, regardless of size or area.

Both cold water and hot water are included in the rent. Extreme excess use will be noted and charged to the responsible tenant.

Please contact us immediately if there is any issue with the water supply, indicating blockage or possible overflow risks.

LU Accommodation aims to provide an indoor temperature of 20°C (68°F) during the day and 18-20°C (64-68°F) at night, between the hours of 22.00 and 06.00. The reason for this is to optimize your comfort and your economy, as a substantial part of your rental cost is due to the level of heating in your accommodation and building.

How does the heating work?

The heating at most housing areas is regulated by an automatic system normally referred to as “central heating” and the radiators are therefore not always on. The heating system is automatically turned on when the outside temperature is below a certain degree. It can therefore take a couple of days for the system to fully activate when the temperature outside fluctuates during the day in autumn or spring. Please note that the room temperature in your room is often raised by the building’s ventilation system.

The heating in your apartment comes from hot water that circulates through the radiators. A thermostatic valve on each radiator ensures that the correct amount of hot water is circulated in relation to the temperature in the room.

You can control the temperature in the room by turning the thermostatic valve and thereby increasing or decreasing the water circulating in the radiator. However, the heating system is limited to a maximum of about 20°C (68°F), according to our heating policy.

The general temperature in your room should be 20°C (68°F). Please note that this is based on a temperature reading carried out at a height of one meter from floor level in the middle of your room, during the day. We do not offer the service of making the temperature higher than 20 degrees as this is not environmentally friendly.

In certain housing areas the heating system in the building will lower the level of heating (by a couple of degrees) during the night in order to save energy and in order to create a room temperature which is suitable for tenants whilst they sleep.

Tips

  • Wear indoor shoes and warmer clothes during the colder seasons, especially when the temperature outside is fluctuating.
  • Do not cover or obstruct the radiator with anything (for example a desk, blinds, couch).
  • Always keep the thermostat on the maximum. Rotate the thermostat counterclockwise until it stops!
  • Never turn the thermostat below “level 2”.
  • Do not keep your windows open for the whole day. Air the room quickly and thoroughly instead of having the window open all day long. Turn off the radiator and open the window wide for a short time. If you have more than one window, by all means open them so that you get a cross-draught. After a few minutes, close the windows and turn the radiator on again.
  • Do not plug or obstruct the ventilation system. The lack of air circulation will both affect air quality and temperature.
  • Keep an eye on the sealing strips around your windows and doors. If you feel a draught, the strips may need to be replaced.
  • Close your curtains/blinds at night, as this will help keep out the cold.

If the temperature is lower than 20°C (68°F) after 24 hours of you following our tips then you should make a fault report. We will then leave a thermometer in your room to measure your temperature for 24 hours.

Are the radiators cold?

When the weather changes and it gets cooler outside, you can sometimes feel that it is a little colder indoors. If the radiators are cold it is usually because they do not begin to heat until the indoor temperature is below 20°C (68°F), regardless of the outdoor temperature and the temperature of the elements.

A common missconception at some areas (e.g. Klostergården Student House and Eddan) is that the majority of the heat comes from the radiators when the heat generally comes for your ventilation. The radiators can therefore be cold even during the winter unless cold air is coming in by the windows.

Ventilation

The volume of air is regulated by Swedish law and is checked at regular intervals by the property owner. Fresh air is often steered through vents in the outer walls or under windows. The ventilation system can be designed in different ways, but often there is an air extractor in the form of a cooker hood, fan or ventilation unit in kitchens and bathrooms.

During the cold part of the year, draughts may be felt from the fresh air vents, but the vents are located to provide the best possible ventilation in the home. Do not block or cover vents, otherwise air will enter through other openings and upset the indoor climate and the fine adjustments that have been made to ensure correct air exchange to keep your housing at 20°C (68°F).

Electricity is included based on average use. Extreme use of electricity will be noted and charged to the responsible tenant.

Internet is included in your rent, via either Wi-Fi or cable. The internet provider differs between our housing areas. The name of the internet provider is noted on the housing information page for each housing area.

Wireless (Wi-Fi)

In housing areas with Wi-Fi, you will be provided with the login details for the network in your accommodation or in the arrival information. Just connect, and enjoy!

Cable (ethernet)

Wireless internet access is unfortunately not offered as standard in our accommodation, and for most housing areas, tenants need to bring their own ethernet-cable.

A short term solution to obtain internet on a smartphone or tablet without needing to buy a router or mobile data is to use the laptop as a wireless hotspot. These settings, available in the laptop, allow a laptop to act as Wi-Fi for other devices.

In this method, the laptop is connected to the network socket with a network cable and by enabling network settings on Windows or Mac OS X, the laptop will act as a wireless hotspot. Tutorials on how to enable these settings can be found online. Try searching for ‘laptop as a router’.

Internet speeds

Here are some examples of internet speeds at different areas:

  • Eddan: Between 100Mbps & 1Gbps via a cable connection.
  • Sofieberg: 100Mbps via a cable connection.
  • Östra Torn: 100Mbps via a Wi-Fi.
  • Klostergården Student House: 100Mbps via a Wi-Fi.

All bedrooms come with basic furniture included. Regardless if you are staying in a corridor room or an apartment the following furniture should be available:

  • Bed (90 x 200 cm)*
  • Mattress
  • Wardrobe/Chest of drawers
  • Desk
  • Desk chair
  • Lamps
  • Curtains/Blinds

*Beds can vary in size where the facility owner is responsible for the beds (e.g. Ideon Student House). They are however never smaller than 90 x 200 cm.

The use of laundry facilities is included in your rent and there are no extra costs. In most buildings you will have to buy your own washing detergents.

Laundry facilities in the apartment

Some housing areas have laundry machines and tumble dryers within each apartment. These are most often placed in the bathroom, but can sometimes be found in the kitchen. Tenants have free access to these machines, but must make sure to maintain them well.

Shared laundry facilities

Most housing areas have shared washing facilities (so called "tvättstuga"). This laundry room is often situated in the basement, ground floor, or in a separate building.

You have to book a laundry session in advance in order to do your laundry, using either an electronic or physical lock system, depending on area. The length of a session differs between 2 to 6 hours, and the number of sessions may be limited to a certain number per month.

Electronic tag system

The electronic laundry system is booked with the laundry tag (see picture to the right). The booking system is usually placed outside the laundry room.

If the laundry tag stopped working, please check the following steps:

  • Can you see the previous laundry session that you have booked?
  • Are you able to book a new laundry appointment?
  • Can you login at the booking terminal?
  • Is it possible that you have exceeded your 6 laundry sessions per month limit?

If the answer is "no" to all of the above questions, please contact luacc [at] service [dot] lu [dot] se (luacc[at]service[dot]lu[dot]se) to receive a new tag.

Watch our instruction video on how to use the electronic tag system:

Laundry lock system

The laundry lock system is a manual booking system. Laundry is booked by placing your laundry lock in a time slot on the board outside the laundry room.
