Insurance
All tenants need to have a home insurance with liability coverage. Depending on your status as student or researcher, you may need to acquire additional insurance beyond what the university provides.
Home insurance
It is important to have a home insurance including third party liability when staying with LU Accommodation. Students, researchers and international staff are covered by different insurances from the university.
'Incoming students' to Lund University are covered by the ‘Student IN’ or ‘FAS+’ insurance through the state insurance agency Kammarkollegiet.
The term ‘incoming students’ is used to describe students who have moved to Sweden in order to study and have their long term home address in a country other than Sweden.
Incoming guests, staff and interns without a Swedish personal number from the Tax Office are covered by Insurance for foreign visitors (formerly GIF) through Kammarkollegiet. Please read more about that via the link below.
Researchers not covered by Insurance for foreign visitors, who are either employed directly by the University, or who have or will receive a Swedish personal number, need to obtain a home insurance policy through a private home insurance company independently.
Liability coverage
The coverage provided by the insurances described above (Student IN, FAS+ and Insurance for foreign visitors) has a property cover as well as a liability cover. The property and liability coverage in these insurances can be equated to a home insurance policy issued by a private insurance company.
If you do not qualify for any of the above insurances, you will need to obtain a home insurance that includes liability coverage. It is recommended to look into a private home insurance in either case, as the conditions are usually better, and it usually covers more than the home insurance included in the above.
Personal injury insurance
All students and staff at Lund University, including non-incoming students, are also covered by personal injury insurances. Read more according to each category below:
More questions
If you are unsure if you qualify for any of the above insurances, or if you have other questions about insurance, please contact the relevant coordinator at your department. International, exchange, programme and course coordinators should all be able to assist you.
