Housing Guarantee
Please note that the Terms and Conditions of the housing guarantee have been decided by the University management and not by LU Accommodation.
Housing guarantee for students paying tuition fees to Lund University
Please note that:
- you will not be able to receive a housing offer until we have received your first tuition fee payment. When you apply, you will be able to state your housing preferences, and the sooner you pay your tuition fee and the housing application can be confirmed, the more housing options will be available. Therefore, it is very important that you pay your tuition fee as soon as possible after you have accepted your place at Lund University.
- the housing guarantee only applies to you as a student. The housing guarantee does not apply to a partner or any other person not admitted for studies at Lund University with whom you wish to live. LU Accommodation does not offer student accommodation for families.
The terms and conditions of the housing guarantee
- The housing guarantee is only valid if exercised from the first semester of studies. If you choose to find your own housing in the first semester, the housing guarantee is no longer available to you.
- The housing guarantee means that you are guaranteed to receive one housing offer from LU Accommodation.
- As a non-EU/EEA student required to pay tuition fees, you will be able to keep your housing for the normal duration of the Master’s programme (2 or 4 semesters) or Bachelor’s programme (6 semesters) to which you were initially admitted.
However, in order to keep your housing guarantee the following conditions apply:
- You apply for accommodation before the given deadline, even if you are experiencing issues with your visa, residence permit or study fees payment.
- You accept the first and only housing offer given by LU Accommodation.
- You pay the first rent instalment and deposit (2000 SEK) according to instructions.
- You pay the remaining rent instalments and tuition fees according to instructions.
- You do not cancel your housing contract during your study period.
- You have a continuous housing contract for the full duration of your study period (see above) including all non-semester time periods. Exceptions to this rule will only apply should you need to leave Lund for a period in order to carry out an integral part of your studies at Lund University.
- You fulfill the rental terms and conditions of the accommodation contract.
Exemptions for students on a US student loan or a full scholarship:
As a Bachelor's or Master's student who has been granted a US student loan or a scholarship covering both tuition fees and living costs (e.g. the Swedish Institute Scholarship), you are not required to pay your first rent instalment until you arrive in Lund.
However, you still need to accept your housing offer within the deadline specified in the housing offer.
Housing guarantee for exchange students from UC and students on a Linnaeus-Palme scholarship

- You do not cancel your housing contract during your study period.
- You have a continuous housing contract for the full duration of your study period (see above) including all non-semester time periods. Exceptions to this rule will only apply should you need to leave Lund for a period in order to carry out an integral part of your studies at Lund University.
