Who is eligible for accommodation?

This page briefly explains who can apply for Guest researcher accommodation through LU Accommodation and outlines the key steps in the housing application process.

Guest researchers

The procedure for bringing guest researchers to Lund varies between departments. The host department will need to verify that the guest is indeed in Sweden as a guest researcher.

If a guest receives a wage from, or holds a position at, Lund University, they need to fit the criteria that govern postdoctoral researchers as outlined below. If they do not fit these criteria, they will not be eligible for accommodation through LU Accommodation.

Before making a booking request, the host department needs to assess whether the researcher is a guest researcher or not. As part of submitting the request, the department affirms that the guest fulfils the criteria above.

Doctoral students (PhDs)

PhD students are welcome to apply for housing if they have begun their studies at Lund University within six (6) months of their requested move-in date.

Postdoctoral researchers

Postdoctoral researchers are welcome to apply for housing if they qualify for the following criteria:

  1. Their employment at Lund University began within six (6) months of the requested move-in date.
  2. Their doctoral thesis (or similar) was completed no more than five (5) years ago.
