Cost of cleaning company for tenants who have not paid the cleaning charge
If you have not paid the cleaning charge when moving in, you are expected to fully clean the accommodation before leaving. Below are the general cost for failing to clean properly.
LU Accommodation has procured two external cleaning companies to carry out the necessary cleaning in our rooms and apartments. If a departure inspection finds that an accommodation is in need of cleaning, LU Accommodation will send one of the cleaning companies to the apartment, and charge the cost to the departing tenant.
If you have paid a cleaning charge before moving in, this information does not affect you.
Cleaning company prices
The price charged to the tenant depends on the type of accommodation.
Each unit has two fixed prices: one for a normal cleaning and one for situations where only minor issues remain after the tenant’s departure. These prices are non-negotiable, as they have been determined through a public procurement process.
The prices do not cover
Any room left in a mess will require additional time for the cleaning company and any additional cost incurred will be added charged to the departing tenant. Extra fees may be charged for the following, among other things:
- An accommodation in need of sanitization, due to extreme uncleanliness, infestation or prevalence of bodily fluids
- Removal of personal belongings or trash
- Any damages to the apartment
Prices are based on the type of apartment, according to the Swedish categorisation of "Rum och Kök" (Swedish for Room and Kitchen).
In this categorisation, an apartment is categorized according to how many rooms there are in total, excluding the kitchen and bathrooms.
Example: a One Bedroom Apartment, with one bedroom, one living room, one dining room, and two bathrooms and a kitchen would be categorised as a 3 Rum och kök (three rooms and a kitchen).

Please note that if your contract started in January 2026 or later, you will instead be charged a cleaning fee when you move in.
